Housing what’s often referred to as the “queen of all private art collections”, it contains paintings by Caravaggio, Raphael and Titian, as well as some sensational sculptures by Bernini; look out for Bernini’s “Rape of Persephone” and Canova’s “Venus Victrix”.

The Museum’s collection was formed by Cardinal Scipione Borghese (1579-1633) the most knowledgeable and ruthless art collector of his day. He began to build Villa Borghese around 1606 with a huge and refined park organized into two parts: a landscape garden according to naturalistic English manner destined to an hunting reserve, and elegant gardens articulated according to formal geometric schemes.

Today the collection is housed in the central building called “Casino Nobile”.
